Staying Power: Photographs of Black British Experience, 1950s-1990s
Staying Power is a project designed to increase the number of black British photographers and images of black Britain in the Victoria & Ablert Museum’s collections. It aims to raise awareness of the contribution of black Britons to British culture and society in general as well as to the art of photography. Over seven years, the V&A has acquired 118 works by 17 artists. To complement the photographs, Black Cultural Archives collected oral histories from some of the photographers, their relatives, and the people depicted in the images.
